Wirtshaus in der Au is one of the most appreciated restaurants not only in Munich, but even beyond city lines. Giant “Knödel” based dishes are traditional puré-balls internationally known. Knödel is a very poor German dish often accompanied with meat or fish. Wirtshaus In Der Au is famous today for having the biggest Knödel in Munich, but also for having hosted the Sahara Dancing in 1963.
The building where the restaurant is living today was created in 1842: became a brewery in 1850, was destroyed during the World War II and then was rebuilt 69 years ago.
